A certified technologist uses ultrasound to evaluate for blockage in the neck arteries. Plaque build-up from abnormal collection of calcium and cholesterol on the artery walls can restrict the blood flow to the brain or even break off and cause a stroke. Stroke is the third leading cause of death and disability in this country, with 500,000 new strokes occurring annually.
ABDOMINAL AORTA SCREENING For Aneurysm ($45 Self-pay; HSA eligible)
A certified technologist uses ultrasound to determine if there is a “ballooning” of the abdominal aorta wall. The majority of people with AAA’s have no symptoms. If an AAA ruptures, the mortality rate is as high as 80%, with many not surviving long enough to reach a hospital.
